At the end of September, I’ll be joining fellow Yorkshire writers for a full day of books, conversation and creativity at the Promoting Yorkshire Authors Fair. The fair takes place on Sunday 27th September 2026, from 10am until 4pm, at The Station in Richmond, North Yorkshire.
This free event brings together writers from across Yorkshire for a friendly day of books, conversation and shared creativity. Visitors will be able to meet local authors, discover new writing and purchase signed copies directly from the people who wrote them.
A Short Talk About A Very Alternative Coast to Coast
During the day, I’ll also be giving a ten-minute talk about my book, A Very Alternative Coast to Coast.
The book follows three men approaching retirement as they embark upon a distinctly unconventional walk across the North of England. Their journey includes wrong turns, falls, unexpected encounters and more than a few moments when reaching the opposite coast appears doubtful.
It is a walking story, but not a traditional guidebook. It is a gentle and humorous account of friendship, ageing, misadventure and the people and places encountered along the way.
My short talk will introduce the story behind the book and some of the experiences that helped shape it. I hope it will appeal to keen walkers, reluctant walkers and anyone who enjoys a travel story in which events do not always proceed according to plan!
Meet Yorkshire’s Authors
The authors exhibiting at the fair are all members of Promoting Yorkshire Authors, a supportive community of writers drawn from Yorkshire’s three historic counties.
The group brings authors together to exchange advice, encourage good practice, promote one another’s work and organise events. Membership of its online network is free, making the fair a useful opportunity for aspiring writers as well as readers looking for their next book.
