This Halloween, there’s a spider on the loose… and he’s making an awful lot of noise!
Forget the creepy crawlies hiding in dark corners. My Heavy-Footed Spider is rather different. For one thing, he wears hobnailed boots!
With Halloween falling on Saturday 31 October, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to introduce younger readers, parents and grandparents to my little collection of children’s poems, The Heavy-Footed Spider and Other Stories.
And don’t worry, these aren’t frightening Halloween tales. They’re full of nonsense, laughter, imagination and the sort of silliness that children (and quite a few grown-ups) seem to enjoy!
🕷️ What might you find inside?
There’s a spider stomping about in his boots, a rather squidgy marshmallow cat, a spotty dog who loves rock and roll, and even an alien wearing silver knickers!
You’ll also encounter a griffin coming to tea, an elephant and plenty of other unusual characters.
Across 24 pages, there’s a whole little world of ridiculous adventures, playful rhymes and stories to share aloud.
❤️ A little book with a lovely family history
This collection is particularly special to me. The original book was created with my granddaughter Bella Kay-Shaw, whose wonderful imagination and illustrations helped bring the poems to life. We made it to celebrate her brother Sammy’s third birthday.
My wife Sandra later encouraged me to produce a second edition, which was published in 2025. So it really is a family affair, and one that I’m delighted to share with other families.
