As we step into the fresh energy of 2026, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be taking part in two upcoming editions of Verbalise, one of my favourite spoken word events at the wonderful Brewery Arts in Kendal.
Verbalise has been a cherished part of the Cumbrian creative scene since 2009. It’s that special kind of evening where emerging voices stand shoulder-to-shoulder with established artists on the same welcoming stage. The format is simple, supportive, and always inspiring: an open mic where performers (poets, storytellers, songwriters, novelists, comedians—you name it) get up to 4 minutes to share their work, followed by a featured guest or guests who bring something extra special to the night.
Hosted by the brilliant Ann Grant (former South Cumbria Poet Laureate and all-round champion of new writing), the atmosphere is friendly and inclusive. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or someone thinking about stepping up to the mic for the first time, it’s a safe, encouraging space. You can join us live in the Warehouse Seated area or tune in online, perfect if you’re further afield or prefer to watch from the comfort of home.

Saturday 31st January 2026

- Doors / start: 19:30 (live), 19:35 (online)
- Featured performer: Ian Chapman – a local legend whose poetry spans festivals, love, motorbikes, motorways, and the everyday thoughts that make us human.
- Theme vibe: Bring your New Year reflections, new beginnings, or anything fresh from your pen.
- I’ll be reading too, perhaps a piece or two from Imprints, or something new that’s been brewing. Come along and share the stage!

Saturday 21st February 2026

- Doors / start: 19:30 (live), 19:35 (online)

- Two powerhouse guests, expect sharp, moving, and witty work that will spark ideas and conversations long after the lights go down.
Both evenings are located right in the heart of beautiful, historic Kendal at Brewery Arts, a venue that always feels like home to writers and audiences alike.
