Nine years since the last stretch of the Camino in Spain…

I’m reflecting on my Camino journey from nine years ago, captured in this photo on a historic stone bridge in Spain, as I celebrate the anniversary of my book “Show Me The Way to Santiago,” published after four years of writing and editing. It took me two years to write the book and another two years working with editors to hone it to its final publication.

The Camino de Santiago, a 500-mile pilgrimage route, saw a record 446,000 pilgrims in 2024, a 10% increase from the previous year, highlighting its growing global appeal. My book joins a rich tradition of Camino literature, a genre that includes works by authors like Paulo Coelho and Shirley MacLaine, often blending personal transformation with cultural exploration.

The weather during my 2016 pilgrimage was cold and wet in Spain, contrasting sharply with a UK heatwave that saw temperatures hit 30°C (86°F) in May, an unusual event for that time of year.

Writing “Show Me The Way to Santiago” was a deeply personal process, inspired by the myths, legends, and fellow pilgrims I encountered, much like Robert Mullen’s “Call Of The Camino,” which also weaves historical lore with personal stories.

The bridge in the photo is part of the Camino Francés, a UNESCO World Heritage route, known for its medieval architecture and scenic landscapes, which I vividly describe in my book.

I’m thrilled to share that “Show Me The Way to Santiago” is still available for purchase. I’m still as proud of Show Me The Way to Santiago as I am of my new poetry pamphlet IMPRINTS, which was launched on Saturday.
