We’re turning 80 (in open mic years) and are thrilled to have poet James Nash as this month’s guest to help us celebrate. Alongside a headline set from James, we’ll have our usual open mic for emerging writers – and quite possibly cake!
James Nash is a writer and poet. A long-term resident of Leeds and Bridlington, his third collection of poems, Coma Songs was published in 2003 and reprinted in 2006. Since 2012 his poetry has been published by Valley Press, beginning with selected poems, ‘A Bit of An Ice Breaker’ and his first collection of sonnets, ‘Some Things Matter’.‘Cinema Stories’ celebrating the history of cinema in Leeds and written with fellow poet Matthew Hedley Stoppard came out in 2015. ‘A Bench for Billie Holiday’, was published in 2018, followed by ‘Heart Stones’ in 2021.
His new collection ‘Notes of Your Music’ from Valley Press will be out soon.

Rhubarb is a pay-as-you feel event that welcomes poetry & prose readers on an open mic in the first half, followed by a headline set from an invited guest. If you want to read on the open mic, please book with us when you arrive. We generally offer 10 open mic slots of up to 4 minutes (squeezing in a few extras when we can). As always, listeners are also very welcome.
