Hello, poetry lovers! As the leaves begin to turn and the crisp air of autumn settles, I’m delighted to share the latest chapter of my poetic journey for the second half of September 2025. This period has been a whirlwind of creativity, community, and connection, and I’m excited to take you along for the ride. From headlining at The Runcible Spoon to participating in the Harrogate Autumn PYA event, here’s what’s been happening in my world!

Harrogate Autumn Show with PYA: Celebrating Poetry
On Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st September 2025, I joined the Promoting Yorkshire Authors (PYA) event at the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show, held at the stunning Newby Hall. This collaboration with the flower show was a perfect blend of nature and literature, aligning with the season’s theme of autumnal inspiration. On the first day I sold 8 books and 3 activity packs. Whilst Saturday was very wet, on Sunday the sun shone. Everyone sold books across all three days. I’m already looking forward to future PYA events and the Spring Show next April!

Headlining The Runcible Spoon
Earlier this month, I had the privilege of headlining at The Runcible Spoon, a beloved poetry night that took place on 23rd September 2025. As I brought a mix of my dialect poetry and enjoyed new works inspired by Yorkshire’s rich landscapes and history. The audience’s energy was infectious, and I enjoyed weaving in some light-hearted anecdotes. A special nod to the Runcible Spoon organiser, the wonderful Kathleen Strafford, for giving me this platform!
Rhubarb #85: A Night of Poetry and Open Mic at The Triangle, Shipley

One of the standout moments of this month was my participation in Rhubarb #85, held on Wednesday, 24th September 2025, at The Triangle in Shipley. This delightful evening featured the talented Kristina Diprose as the headline act, with an open mic session that brought the community together. The event kicked off at 7:00 PM with a 7:30 PM start, operating on a “pay-as-you-feel” basis, ensuring accessibility for all poetry enthusiasts. Kristina, a key figure in the local literary scene, delivered a captivating performance. I had the honour of sharing poems from my recently published pamphlet, Imprints (Yaffle Press, May 2025). The intimate setting of The Triangle, combined with the audience’s enthusiastic response, made it an unforgettable experience. A heartfelt thank you to Kristina and the Rhubarb team for curating such a magical event!

Other September Engagements
The second half of September has been bustling with other creative pursuits. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting new writers and readers. As we transition into October, I’m gearing up for Kendal Bookfair and the Brewery Arts. The momentum from September’s events has fuelled my creativity, and I’m excited to see where this poetic journey leads next.
Thank you all for being part of this adventure.
Your support, whether through attending events, purchasing my work, or reading these updates, means the world to me. Until next time, keep writing, keep reading, and keep exploring the magic of words.
Warmest wishes,
Peter Kay
