Greetings, readers! Reflecting on an incredible three-day library tour that took place from Wednesday, August 13th to Friday, to August 15th, 2025. I’m still buzzing with excitement from the events at Knaresborough Library, Harrogate Central Library, and Ripon Library. This adventure, in collaboration with FEVA, Books & Beverages, and Promoting Yorkshire Authors (PYA), has been a heart-warming celebration of storytelling, creativity, and community. Let me take you through the highlights, the feedback, and some exciting new opportunities that have emerged from this experience!

Day 1: Knaresborough Library – Where It All Began
The tour kicked off on Wednesday, August 13th, at Knaresborough Library. Some very engaged young children, (aged 2 to 9) thoroughly enjoyed colouring pictures from my Owl and The Mole book in Knaresborough library. As well as making pictures, the children are helping to choose the title of my next children’s book. So far ‘Bob the Dog’ is winning with 4 votes. The children adjudged to have created the best pictures will be rewarded with receiving a free copy of the ‘new’ book which will also have their names within it.

Day 2: Ripon Library – A Welcoming Haven
On Thursday, August 14th, we moved to Ripon Library, a venue known for its accessibility and warm atmosphere. The day followed a similar schedule, as children aged from 4 to 11, created their versions of Owl and Badger. Poor Mole, no-one chose him to colour in today. In terms of my next book, Bob the Dog is still in the lead, but the Squirrel Skirmish is catching up. Currently Bob the Dog has 7 votes Squirrel Skirmish 5 and ginger fox to the rescue 3 votes. Some more great pictures from today are already lighting up my social media, showcasing the talented young people I had the pleasure of working with.

Day 3: Harrogate Central Library – A Creative Climax
Today, Friday, August 15th, we wrapped up at Harrogate Central Library. The energy was infectious as we concluded the tour with more readings from The Owl and The Mole and exciting activities. The children’s enthusiasm peaked as they contributed ideas for my next book, with the best-coloured pictures earning them a credit and a complimentary copy; watch this space for the talented winners! The children of Harrogate didn’t disappoint with their creative versions of The Owl and the Mole. In fact Brie, who didn’t get a pick at all yesterday, is arguably star of the art parade today, making it a fitting end to an inspiring week. Lots of votes for fox and squirrel today, although Bob the Dog got some votes as well. It’s very close. Might need a recount to decide which story I write next.

Feedback and Highlights
The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The highlight for me was seeing the young participants’ creativity shine, some truly talented young peoples artwork left me in awe.
A Commercial Boost and Exciting Opportunities
Beyond the joy of connecting with young readers, this tour has opened some fantastic doors. The biggest commercial boost came from the three days: I’ve secured a 2-day slot at the upcoming Harrogate Flower Show at Newby Hall and another 2-day slot at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show on April 26 next year. These opportunities will allow me to reach new audiences and share my love for storytelling in even more vibrant settings. Details about these events will be shared soon on my website, so stay tuned!
A Heartfelt Thank You
I want to extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who made this tour possible; FEVA, Books & Beverages, PYA, the library staff, and, most importantly, the children and families who joined us. Your enthusiasm has fuelled my passion for writing, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us next. For more behind-the-scenes moments, follow my X updates, and keep an eye on my website for the latest news.
Until next time, keep reading, keep creating, and let’s see where our imaginations take us!
Warmest regards,
Peter Kay
